There are over 1.5 million single mothers in France, a figure that has almost doubled in 30 years.

Caught by the throat by economic difficulties and the abyss of precariousness that absorbs them first and foremost, they suffer for the most part from isolation and exhaustion. The aim of this book is to draw attention to those whom society does not want to see, to identify the systemic blockages that burden their daily lives - the headache of childcare, unpaid alimony, tax injustice, etc. - and to urge politicians to take up the problem.

But this essay also aims to help them lift their heads, whatever their standard of living, by listing a number of tips and testimonials to help them live better, and to get rid of the pejorative judgement that society makes of them, by promoting new family models in particular. Single-parent families now represent a quarter of French households, and the overwhelming majority of them are headed by women: it's time to change the way we look at single mothers, and to demand political measures worthy of the name to support them!
